Happy Friday Family! STORY T I M E!
This morning I had to confront one of my biggest fears. S P I D E R S.
While cooking last night I noticed a spider crawling around my light cover in my kitchen. I immediately freaked out. I HATE BUGS… but spiders, in my opinion, are more dangerous than they are a nuisance. My god mom encouraged me to spray bug spray around the area before leaving for work in the morning, so I did just that.
The morning comes and one of the first things that come to mind is, “A’Leeyah you have to spray in your kitchen before you leave for work!”
I grieved the thoughts of even being close to the bug, but I knew if I didn’t spray I could have greater issues on my hands than the spider chilling in my light cover.
I sprayed… after boosting up the courage to spray my ceiling, I FINALLY DID IT.
IT DID NOT DIE! I was terrified at this point. I’m thinking to myself, “what type of spider is this? And why isn’t it dying from the bug spray IMMEDIATELY?!”
I extended my arm to get the bug spray nozzle as close to the light as I could… and sprayed again. THE SPIDER JUMPED TOWARDS THE NOZZLE.
I DROPPED THE BUG SPRAY BOTTLE, SCRAME TO THE TOP OF MY LUNGS, AND STOOD AS STILL AS POSSIBLE.
My heart was racing, and I was paralyzed by my fear of being bitten by a spider. I can be overly dramatic, but THIS WAS SERIOUS. Standing completely still attempting to appear as less of a threat than I truly was to the spider opened my eyes…
What is your deepest darkest fear?
How does your fear control your life?
We will downplay the things we are afraid of until we are forced to confront them. Why does it take so long for us to confront our fears?
I began to recite 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT), “7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” - but honestly, I was still very afraid.
Why is it that fear so easily cripples us when we know God gave us power over it?
I wonder how God could’ve played a larger role in my fear-filled morning had I acknowledged His love.
1 John 4: 16-18 (NLT) reads, “16 We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. 17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. 18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. ”
What was the scariest part of my morning, you ask? I’ll tell you… fearing what a spider bite could’ve done for my health, work schedule, and even physical appearance.
It wasn’t the spider I feared the most… what I feared the most was the effects, and or consequences, of what the spider could have done to me and my day-to-day life.
Let this story be a testament to you on your journey. When fear comes, challenge it, ponder on it, wonder and navigate why it runs so deep. Always confront your fear. Never let your fear control you.
May you have a fear free week. I love you! JESUS LOVES YOU MOST! Be Fruitful! Be Free! #FruitfulFriday #TheFruitfulPlace #ShareTheFruit #thefearfactor
